Take away Matt Cooke's shinguard assisting on Briere's goal and the game is not a 4-4 stalemate as you suggest. You can't take it away, just like you can't take away Coburn's fluke goal. It was what it was. The Penguins skated away with two points, and that's the bottom line.

As for Philadelphia's physical game, did you watch the game's last few seconds? Mike Richards "accidentally" running over the goaltender? Scott Hartnell's disgusting act? Those things are rooted in Philadelphia's hockey philosophy and until that changes, the Flyers won't get over the hump.

Take away Coburn scoring into his own net, and the game is a 4-4 stalemate in regulation. Keeping that in mind, how did Philadelphia's physical game hurt them? If anything, it bridged the gap when you consider Pittsburgh's recent success against Philadelphia.

The only thing that kept the Flyers from collecting at least one point in the standings was a self-inflicted fluky goal. So how is that an indictment of their approach? You do realize they play six times, right? And the Pens barely escaped the first game in that series.
