Some good news…and some bad

by Penguins

philly121409Sat down to watch third period of the Winter Classic preview tonight. Bruins and Flyers got together in Beantown but this time they played inside.

The Bs (as their fans affectionately – sometimes – call them) went into the final stanza with a 1-0 lead and I fully expected them to demean their Eastern Conference rivals, especially since Philly had been severely scuffling as my blogging partner so eloquently portrayed earlier today.

Only one problem. The Flyers acted like they actually wanted to win a game. They scored three unanswered to escape the late Fleet Center (as it was known in my days riding the T) with an impressive victory.

Would you believe three points for Kimmo Timmonen?  That might be his first three-point night since midget hockey.

Now the good news. Pittsburgh rested tonight, probably watched the game just like I did. Philly has to travel tonight, play tomorrow, travel late Tuesday/Wednesday, and play again Thursday. Three games in four nights. And get this, they did the same gauntlet last week, except two of their three were in the city of brotherly love. Brutal.

Here’s hoping they finish the three-in-four with a record of 1-2.
