Exciting First Round Nearing Completion

Boston Bruins vs Pittsburgh Penguins

What an incredible playoff season so far.  And two game sevens in the next 48 hours to complete the first round.  Brace yourselves!

As you already know, if Washington wins tomorrow night, the Pens will face Boston in the conference semis.  What you might not have seen is that Bruin center Marc Savard has been cleared to play in the second round.  What a storyline to have Savard return in a series against Matt Cooke and the Penguins.  This adds another dimension to the term “knock-out round.”

If Montreal defeats the Caps, not only will the hockey world be utterly shocked, but the Pens will then be the top remaining seed in the East and have home ice advantage for the remainder of the conference portion of the playoffs.  Montreal would face the mighty Pens in round two.

I took a look at my partner and my first-round predictions a few minutes ago.  I must give him the edge because, by virtue of a quick count, I believe he accurately predicted two series (winner and number of games ) to my one.  The only series where we picked different winners was Boston/Buffalo.  Again, my partner gets the nod.  Well done Billy, we’ll see how we do in round two predictions!
