Some bad news broke today regarding Jordan Staal and his availability for the start of the season. Staal had a medical procedure done on his foot this week – the same foot he injured in the Montreal series – and he’ll be out of action for five to six weeks. Doing the math, this means Staal will miss at least the first six games of the season. Ouch.
This is not good for Staal or for the Pens. He’ll miss all of camp and preseason, which means he won’t be in prime condition when he does return. And that’s if the foot is completely healed by then. This also means the team will probably keep Evgeni Malkin at center and will have to deal (again) with a lack of skilled wingers to play on the second line.
Stay tuned – this will be an ongoing story for the next couple of months.
