Philadelphia captain Mike Richards was visibly frustrated after losing to the Penguins 5-1 Saturday night. Sidney Crosby scored a pair of third-period power-play goals to blow the game wide open. Richards seemed to take exception with at least a couple of the penalties, saying, “It’s tough when you play Pittsburgh. You know that they’re going to be falling down pretty easy.” He also calls out Matt Cooke around the 50-second mark of the video below.
The Pens had seven power-play opportunities; the Flyers had four. I’m sure no one in Philadelphia was pleased with the tripping call on Claude Giroux early in the third that gave Pittsburgh an extended 5-on-3. Richards was just voicing his displeasure with the situation – whether it was with the Pens or the refs is irrelevant. He just answered the questions posed to him honestly at the moment.
The teams meet for the third time in the season’s first month Oct. 29.
