The Penguins gave Jordan Staal, Chris Kunitz and Paul Martin a rest Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. Without three of their top players, and despite getting outshot 39-20, the Pens ended the regular season on a winning note. Tyler Kennedy, Pascal Dupuis, Mike Rupp and Mark Letestu scored in the second period to lead Pittsburgh to a 5-2 victory. Mike Comrie got his first goal of the season (empty netter) in the third.
Brent Johnson stopped 37 shots and picked up his 12th win of the season. So, the Pens enter the postseason on a four-game winning streak. They’ve won 8 of their past 10 games. The Pens kick off the playoffs Wednesday. The series against Tampa continues with games Friday, Monday (April 18), Wednesday (April 20), Saturday (April 23), Monday (April 25) and Wednesday (April 27).
