The Penguins signed defenseman Alexandre Picard to a one-year, two-way deal worth $600,000 at the NHL level. He had 8 points in 43 games for Montreal last season. To call Picard a journeyman would be an understatement. The 26-year-old has already played for Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Ottawa, Carolina and Montreal.
Not sure what to make of this signing other than to simply add another capable body to blueline. Hard to believe Picard is any higher than eighth on the current depth chart, but it doesn’t hurt to have an NHL-caliber defenseman at the ready in Wilkes-Barre. As Pens fans are well aware, injuries happen. Picard could end up seeing some playing time in Pittsburgh.
