Pens Win, Endure A Crazy Last Period

Pens withstand a final assault, ridiculously short handed to hold on for a 3-2 victory in Carolina tonight.     The Pen’s were so shorthanded, they had players that sat in the penalty box waiting for other penalties to expire just so their’s could start.     Eric Staal deserved an Oscar after some of those dives, but he played like a captain tonight and tried everything he could do to help his team get that game equalizer.

Craig Adams finished as the number one star tonight after his 1 goal and 1 assist performance.     Sid also had an assist tonight, he assisted on Adams goal.     Asham and Dupuis also had goals tonight.     The Pens also had another goal taken away again which makes them 4 in the last 3 or 4 games.      I heard Paul Steigerwald during the game say that he would rather see that happen as proof that the players are working as apposed to not having the disallowed goals at all.      The one tonight was questionable, as were many of the penalties late in that 3rd period.     As further proof of that, the Pens had not been called for a penalty until the 3rd period in which they were called for 6 and 4 of those happened in the last 4 minutes of the game.

The Canes finished the game with 34 shots on goal and played well, but were only able to get 2 past Brent Johnson.    He was announced later this afternoon as the starter which is why I did not have that in my earlier post.     Fleury is fine, they were just resting him.     Jamie McBain scored his first 2 goals of the year tonight for the   Hurricane.  Boucher  stopped 37 shots on goal tonight while facing a total of 40.      The defense let him down a bit in this game.     Though, 3 goals is keeping the game relatively close, especially knowing he faced an avalanche of shots.
