Missed Opportunities Plague Penguins

Tim Thomas was the Difference tonight as the Penguins out shot and out hit the Bruins, but just could not get enough pucks behind Thomas.      Thomas had 45 saves to help the  Bruins to their 14th win in their last 15 games.

The Penguins blew two 5 on 3 opportunities and 5 total power play chances against  the Bruins tonight.     Thomas and the Bruins held Crosby, Malkin and Staal  scoreless tonight.       The only goal that occurred for the Pens was a 3rd period goal scored by Matt Cooke.     It was his 6th goal of the season, and was assisted by Joe Vitale.    If Matt Cooke is scoring, and the big 3 don’t chip in a point, it’s going to be a long night.     And that is just what it was.

Thomas was ridiculous, blocking everything that came his way.    Nearly everything.      The biggest highlight for the Penguins tonight, was the grab that Bylsma made as a Puck was batted out of the rink and up against the glass behind the Penguins bench.

On the other hand, the Bruin’s out shot the Pen’s in the first period and that period only.     That is all it took.      Campbell and Pouliot scored at the 2:57 minute mark and 7:18 minute mark respectively in the first period and that is all the Bruins would need.      Seguin sunk the Penguins early in the 3rd period with the 3rd goal of the game, which put the game completely out of reach.

The Penguins defense in the first period was a little tight, and Fleury was not that sharp early in this game, and that ultimately spelled doom against this Bruins team.      This team is an elite team playing exceptional hockey.     Couple that with a goal tender that stood on his head tonight, makes beating this team a nearly impossible task.
