Evgani Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins worked hard last night trying to stop the current slide. But the Washington Capitals” href=”capitalsoutsider.com” target=”_blank”>Washington Capitals were able to get one goal passed Fleury and that was all they needed. Vokoun stopped everything thrown at him including a couple of real sparklers to increase the Penguins losing streak to 5 games.
Jason Chimera scored the only goal in the first period at the 15 minute mark on a wrist shot. Including that 1 goal, the Caps were only able to get 21 total shots on the net, and that includes only 1 power play shot in 3 chances. The Penguins defense was good last night. It helped that the Capitals were short handed, but it was a major step in the right direction for a team that is struggling the way it is. The lack of scoring continues to be a real problem.
Malkin rang the post a couple of times last night and so did Neal. There were many close shots, opportunities that had the Capitals Goalie out of position but when things are going bad, they go bad and the Penguins were not able to get anything past him.
The Penguins get a travel day off, before playing the Florida Panthers on Friday and the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday. Both games will be on the road. As mentioned in my previous post, the team will be joined by Sidney Crosby as he continues to rehad from his reoccurring concussion situation. Crosby is slated to be on the ice, but he will be skating without the team to start. He is also slated to talk to the Press on this trip to give an update.
