Although the Penguins did not win against Washington, they are drawing on that good play and the site of their Captain on the ice for some inspiration. The Pittsburgh Penguins were on the ice today showing solidarity and support to their Captain Sidney Crosby by displaying a C on all of their practice jersey’s. Evgeni Malkin got in on the act as he displayed a K on his jersey.
The Pens played well against the Caps the other night, they just could not score. The Penguins are trying to pull out all the stops to get them off of this win less streak. Malkin seems to be at this point the only player on the team that is scoring with any regularity. James Neal has cooled in recent days which has not helped, though he is currently nursing a bruised foot that the staff originally diagnosed as broken. Even with this streak and all of the injuries, Ray Shero is convinced his team will make the playoffs “We’re making the playoffs, put it that way,” he said. “Anything less is unacceptable.” Makes you think that some moves may be on the way. Fleury has also been playing better as of late which helps as they try to begin to push.
The Penguins are still going to be without Letang, Crosby, Staal and Despres. As for the Panthers tonight, they will be without Marco Sturm, Sean Bergenheim, and 2 of their goal tenders Theodore, and Markstrom.
The Florida Panthers are 4-4 and 2 going into tonight’s game in their last 10, but coming off a strong win against Vancouver at home on Monday. Clemmensen will be in the net tonight, though I am not sure which injured Panther will be his back up in case of injury or bad outing. Then again as long as he is healthy, he may have to tough out any kind of outing with the health of the other 2 goalies. The Panthers are led by Stephen Weiss who creates a lot of offense on this squad. While Versteeg and Fleischmann are the wingers that are scoring the bulk of the goals for the Panthers. Despite his big season thus far, Versteeg was left off the All Star team. The Panthers also get a big offensive contribution from their top defenseman Brian Campbell who has 33 points going into tonight’s game, 30 of those points are assists.
The Drop of the Puck we be at 7:30 tonight.
