Dan Bylsma updated the media today on current injuries to the Pittsburgh Penguins.     Matt Niskanen is hoping to play on Saturday, he was able to practice today.     Tyler Kennedy skated today before practice, so he is progressing.     Brooks Orpik practiced again today, and is hoping to go this weekend.

Brent Johnson left practice early yesterday, looks like he tweaked something and will probably not go this weekend.     I can not say for certain, but do not be surprised if they bring up the Brad Thiessen from Wilkes Barre for this weekend. There were also crazy rumors that Crosby was on the ice and was okay’d for hitting.    Well, that was flushed quickly.     Sid has been on the ice practicing with the team, but his symptoms are still there and his situation has not changed.

Here were the lines that practiced today according to Sam Kasan of the Penquin’s Report.

The Penguins will be facing another back to back weekend series again this weekend for what will be the 4th weekend in a row.     As the Season gets closer to the end, these back to back games start to not only count for more, but also they pay a toll on the team.     Health and depth become paramount which is another reason why we may see Thiessen brought up.

The Penguins play Tampa on Saturday at 1pm.    The Lightning are on the outside looking in and are 5-4 and 1 in their last 10.     Steven Stamkos is still on a tear and on his way to another 50 goal season.     He only needs 7 more goals in the next 20 games.    Martin St Louis has  slowed down, and Ryan Malone is not having a season like he was hoping for either.

On Sunday they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets that just traded away Jeff Carter for the Much Sought After Jack Johnson and a First Round Draft Pick.    Carter is a player that a good many teams were hoping for, but very few really had a chance to get him.     Curtis Sanford, back up goalie also just came off of IR which sends Allen York back to the Minors.
