The Pittsburgh Penguins will take on the Dallas Stars tonight, who are hovering around the 8th spot in the Western Conference carrying a 4 game winning streak. The Penguins are playing some of the best Hockey they have played all year coming off a victory from their backup to the backup goalie. The Pens have depth, talent and speed and are ready for the Stretch run.The Pittsburgh Penguins will probably see Aaron Asham back on the ice tonight for he practiced yesterday and felt great. Tyler Kennedy is also getting closer, though will probably be another week to 10 days. That just leaves Sidney Crosby who we all know is still not allowed contact, and is still suffering symptoms.
Dallas comes into tonight’s game playing for a playoff spot and getting great play from their top line led Loui Eriksson. Eriksson has had the gaming winning score in the last 2 games, and has been getting great help from his linemates including Mike Riberio. Riberio is a high risk high reward kind of player. Almost feast or famine though recently it has been more Feast and they will need that tonight against the league’s leading scorer and what is questionable the best line in Hockey with Malkin, Neal, Kunitz.
There has been talk that Fleury will need some rest and they are hoping the Thiessen will be able to do that. Ray Shero did not add anyone at the trade deadline and he issued this statement regarding the trade deadline.
It was pretty quiet. Even though you don’t make a deal, we had a number of conversations with some teams. Whether the price, in our opinion, was too high on some players or there just wasn’t a fit on our end, (nothing happened). We did make some offers on some players. But those players never even got moved. It was a long day to really come up with nothing, but as I said going into it, we were fine with that. We’re going to get a few injured players back here – hopefully Arron Asham soon and Tyler Kennedy – and we’re going to go forward with our team.
