The Pittsburgh Penguins extended their streak to 6 games with a 2-1 win on Monday Night over the Phoenix Coyotes. And for the second game in a row, the scoring did not come from the big 2, Malkin and Neal.
The Penguins were able to get off to an early start with 2 goals in the first. The first goal came off off a Zybanek Michalek Wrist shot passed Smith to make it 1-0. Shortly after that, Chris Kunitz put the puck in the same place for a 2-0 lead with a snap shot. It looked at that moment like it was going to be another laugh er for the Pens, but that was not to be.
After that score, Mike Smith was unbelievable. He single handedly kept his team in the game making ridiculous saves throughout the rest of the game. The difference in this game was Marc Andre Fleury. He stopped all but 1 of the 35 shots that came at him, and some of them were also of the unbelievable variety.
The only goal that was able to be scored against Fleury was by Ray Whitney, the one player on this team you would have expected to score against the Pens because of his history. Whitney has scored at least a point in every game he has played against the Penguins.
Paul Martin has picked his game up a bit since Letang has not been in the lineup, and as a whole, you could see so often last night that the defense around the net was working extremely hard trying to keep pucks away from Fleury.
The Penguins will be at home for the next 3 games, plying every other day. The Penguins will play Toronto on Wednesday, then Florida on Friday. That game will be followed up with a home game against the Bruins on Sunday.
