Pens Come From Behind To Beat Panthers In Shootout

facebooktwitterreddit

The Florida Panthers Came into Pittsburgh Trying to take advantage of Pittsburgh’s Injury/illness situation and they were almost able to do it.     The Penguins took the entire game shooting puck after puck at the Florida Goalie, but he stood tall.     Until the shootout when the Pens were able to take control and get a 2-1 victory over the Panthers tonight.

The Pens gave up a goal to Tomas Fleischmann at the 7:17 mark of the second period for a 1-0 lead.     There was no more scoring, though both teams were putting pucks on the net and ringing the posts like church bells on Christmas Eve.     It took till the 3 minute mark of the 3rd period for the Pens to get on the board with a Steve Sullivan goal to tie things up.

Both teams exchanged opportunities and shooting flurries throughout the 3rd period but no other pucks could find the back of the net.    Though, Pasqual Dupuis had another disallowed goal tonight.    I think that makes about 10 for the season.    The interesting thing is that I do not think I am exaggerating that much.     The overtime period was owned by the Penguins but just like regular time, Theodore played great and stood tall.    It was not until the shoot out when Theodore got used and abused.    He gave up a Shootout goal to Neal first, then Malkin and that was it.     Fleury did not give up a goal.    Final score 2-1.    The Penguins take on Boston on Sunday at 12:30 Pm, the time was changed for NBC to cover as a regional game.

On the Pittsburgh Root Sports intermission coverage, Sidney Crosby was interviewed live and in person in the booth.    He was asked about a possible Sunday return.    Sid laughed a bit and said he has not been able to get much hitting and work in but they have not ruled it out yet.     The Penguins play on Sunday then not again till Thursday.    If I were the Penguins, I would hold his return for that game.

Oh by the way, the Penguins won their 8th game in a row.
