Big Night In The Big Apple

It’s official, Kris Letang will be on the ice tonight against the Rangers in New York.     Oh Yeah, so will Sidney Crosby.      That makes tonight one of the few games this year all 3 centers will be on the ice.     This team is finally healthy.     Now if they can just stay that way.

The Penguins will also have Paul Martin and Deryk Engelland on the ice tonight to go along with Crosby.        As mentioned, Kris Letang was also added for tonight’s game which will be huge for the power play.       As I wrote in my previous post, the Pens are looking to run 5 forwards out on the ice during power plays and that includes having Kris Letang out there working the point and probably Sullivan being the player back on defense when needed.

For the Rangers tonight, Ryan Callahan and Michael Del Zotto were listed as day to day, though probably will not play.      And at 11:30 am Lundqvist announced that he would not be playing tonight either.     In goal tonight it will be Marty Biron who has been solid behind Lundqvist.       Brad Richards is starting to play the best hockey he has played all year and not coincidentally, that entire top line for the Rangers is playing well including Marion Gaborik and Carl Hegelin.     Each of those line mates notched 3 points in their last game.

This is a huge stretch for the Pens only being 6points behind the Rangers for First in the Division and Conference, so obviously this game would be a big  step.     Follow all of that up with the fact that the Pens have won the last 2 meetings, and are currently on a 9 game winning streak…All Eyes Are On The Big Apple Tonight!      The Penguins have a day  off tomorrow but follow that up with back to back games against Philly and New Jersey.

I was in downtown today, and all I saw were Crosby Jerseys and Shirts Everywhere.    Oh by the way, this was the first day of the NCAA Tournament, and Pittsburgh is hosting first round play.      Better believe “This Is A Great Day For Hockey.”
