The Pittsburgh Penguins got off to a fast start against the Predators last night, and were able to keep the pressure on throughout. No one would have imagined the Penguins being able to beat up on one of the Western Conferences best teams though that did not stop the Pens from getting another blowout victory 5-1.Evgeni Malkin had 2 more goals last night to give him 95 points for the season and if he continues to score goals at this pace, he also has an outside chance to get to 50 goals also. Malkin scored the Penguins first goal last night early in the first period to give the Pens a 1-0 lead. Pascal Duipuis chipped in a goal just 3 minutes later to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead not 5 minutes into the game. It took Nashville a little bit of time but they were able to start playing well and were cycling the puck and was also able to out shoot the Penguins in that period, but were unable to get one passed Fleury.
Not quite 2 minutes in to the 2nd period Matt Cooke scored on a wrist shot to make it 3-0. Chris Kunitz added a wrist shot 5 minutes later to give the Penguins a 4-0 lead. It was that goal that really put the game out of reach. The Predators were able to get a goal from their newest addtion, Alexander Radulov. He scored at the 12 minute mark of the period to make it 4-1. Radulov was just recently signed from the KHL.
Evgeni Malkin scored a second goal early in the 3rd period to make the game 5-1. That would be all of the scoring, even though the predators out shot the Pens 30-23. The Nashville defense played well and they had many opportunities on the offensive side of the rink, but were unable to score time and time again. Marc Andre Fleury also got his 40th win of the season not to mention he draws within 2 wins of the Penguins all time mark that is held by Tom Barasso.
The Penguins play their next game in Ottawa on Saturday at 7pm and then they come home on Sunday to play the Devils in Pittsburgh.
