The Pittsburgh Penguins were able to shake off a bad game against the Sens last night to beat up on New Jersey Tonight by a score of 5-2.     Some of the plays that occurred tonight were just sick and Sidney Crosby is just getting better and better the longer he is on the ice.    Tonight should serve as  a warning shot to the rest of the NHL.

The Pittsburgh Penguins started fast tonight as Marty Brodeur was caught out of the net and Chris Kunitz was able to get a snap shot goal to make it 1-0 at the 1:04 mark of the 1st period.     Zach Parise was able to get his own Empty Netter of sorts when Marc Andre Fleury made the first of what seemed like many awkward plays from behind the net.     That score held up until the last minute of the period when Jordan Staal put in a wrister for his 23rd goal of the season to give the Pens a 2-1 lead going into the 1st intermission.

The Penguins were able to get the only goal of the second period on a Pascal Dupuis snap shot at the 15:34 mark of the 2nd.    Sid was able to get an assist on the play and get the first of his 2 points of the night.

Kovalchuk was able to draw the Devils within a goal with a wrist shot at the 3:37 point of the 3rd period.     Just about a minute later, Sidney Crosby was able to  remind the NHL why he is the Best player in Hockey when healthy.    Sid got his second goal since his return passing to himself around a player and then throwing a wrist shot right passed Brodeur.    In the Immortal words of Mike Lang, Marty did not know whether to “Cry or wind his watch.”    I will have the goal posted on the Hub as soon as it is available.    The goal stretched the score out to 4-2.    Malkin was able to add an empty netter towards the end of the period to stretch the lead to 5-2 and that would be how it ended.

The Penguins were out shot tonight 34-28, but were able to take advantage of the opportunities they were given and Fleury was the better Goalie tonight.    The Penguins defense, was better tonight than the last game against Ottawa, but they still let way to many open passes go to the front of the net.    That part of their game has to get cleaned up before the playoffs.

The Penguins next game will be Tuesday vs. the Islanders at home.
