Penguins Lose To Isles, Blow Opportunity

The Pittsburgh Penguins put more than 50 shots on both Nobokov and Montoya, but could only muster 3 goals as they lose tonight by the score of 5-3.      James Neal scored twice but it was not enough as Fleury did not have a strong night, not to mention he did not come out to play the 3rd period after a hit in the 2nd.

The Islanders scored the only 2 goals of the first period, first of which by Frans Nielsen at the 3:02 mark of the first period.     They scored again with a shot by Michael Grabner with only a few seconds left in the period to give the Isles a 2-0 lead going into intermission.

The Penguins were able to get the first 2 scores of the second period as both goalies had a rough time.     Tyler Kennedy got the Pens Started off with a goal in the second minute of the 2nd period.     It was first awarded to Dupuis as I tweeted during the game, but later given to Kennedy with a tip in.     James Neal scored the second goal for the Pens to tie things up 2-2 around the 4 minute mark of the second.     The Penguins at the time had all of the momentum, but were not able to score again till later in the third period.     The problem being, the Pens would give up 3 more goals during that period.     Kyle Okposo, Frank Nielsen, and David Ullstrom all scored including the Ullstrom Power Play to put the game out of reach.       Islanders tonight were out shot 54-25, out hit 23-14 and lost the face off battle 40-24 but were able to take advantage of a wounded defensive unit and a goalie that had an off night.

The Penguins James Neal was able to get another goal as mentioned later in the 3rd period but it was too little too late.     And with that loss and Rangers win, it will put their current charge to first place on hold at least until this weekend.    The Pens are 3 points down and running out of games if they want to make that run towards the top spot.
