Sidney Crosby scored a goal and added 3 more assists to make him the 7th youngest player to get to 600 career points, while his team was able to get off the canvas and beat the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 5-3.
Brent Johnson was in net last night, and after a shaky start was able to buckle down and show why his team has had so much confidence in him when he comes in to play for Marc-Andre Fleury. Evgeni Malkin got the scoring started with a Power Play Goal at the 3:50 mark of the game to give the Pens a 1-0 lead. Buffalo was able to tie things up 3 minutes later with a goal by Jordan Leopold. Sidney Crosby was able to regain the lead for the Pens with a Wrist Shot at the 12:45 point of the period. Buffalo came right back with a goal by Tyler Ennis to tie things back up at 2 and that would be how the period ends.
Brent Johnson settled down in the second period and the Power Play continued to click for the Pens as James Neal scored midway through the period to make it 3-2. Steve Sullivan flipped one in on his backhand about 4 minutes later to give the Pens a 2 goal advantage. Thomas Vanek scored for the Sabres to draw them to within 1 goal. That would in fact be the last puck that the Sabres were able to slip passed Johnson. Jordan Staal was able to score an empty netter late in the 3rd period to give the Pens a 5-3 victory.
The Penguins are off today and not on the ice either for practice. Simon Despres also was sent down to Wilkes Barre. The Pens have a huge game against the Flyers on Sunday on NBC at 12:30pm.
