Well Penguins fans we thought the events that transpired yesterday in the confines of Consol Energy Center were going to be enough to jazz us up for the rematch on Saturday night, WE THOUGHT WRONG!!!!
Not even 24 hours after the events of the Pens and Flyers game yesterday, NBC announcer Mike Milbury came out today on 94WIP’s Angelo Cataldio radio show and added more fuel to what I like to call the unprofessional fire.
The comments made today by Milbury were “I thought Dan Bylsma should have taken off his skirt and gone over there” referring to argument between coaches during game on Sunday. The other comment consisted of this “Little goody two shoes [Crosby] goes into the corner and gives a shot to Schenn. Schenn was late to the party, he should have turned around and drilled him right away, but I guess better late than never”. “So you know, Crosby gets cross-checked, big whoop. After he came back from his 35th concussion, ‘I’m not going to do this anymore, I’m not going to get into these scrums, I’m going to stay away from that stuff.’ He couldn’t help himself because there’s a little punk in Crosby. He’s not the perfect gentleman. He’s not the sweet kid you see in interviews with his hat pulled down over his eyes. I’d say screw him, hit him”.
I have watched a massive of amount of sporting events in my time and I can’t recall more unprofessional statements by a supposed professional talent of the national media. It will be interesting to see how NBC reacts. It will be even more interesting to see the reaction of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Penguin fans, if the Pens play Philly in the first round of the playoffs expect this to be their motivation to win that series.
In closing, in my opinion Mike Milbury’s comments mocking Sidney Crosby’s concussion are just merely the pathetic ramblings of a man who couldn’t cut it as a player, GM, coach and possibly now a broadcaster in this league. What does this mean for Milbury’s future on NBC? Thoughts about his statements? Post your comments here on Penslabyrinth.com or shoot me a tweet @DanHoblick with your opinions and comments.
