In the last week and a half I have been reading a lot of NHL fan’s opinions on who the MVP of the league should be. You would think everyone on twitter would be saying Evgeni Malkin but they’re not. It has all been Steven Stamkos lately for some unexplainable reason.
The last time I checked MVP stood for Most Valuable Player. Sure Steven Stamkos has had an unbelievable season. He is approaching a 60 goal season, but what has it led too? I can tell you, the 10th or 11th spot in the Eastern Conference. Big Deal!!! On the other hand you look at Evgeni Malkin season, you take that away from the Pittsburgh Penguins this year, Dan Bylsma and the rest of the team would have been practicing their golf swings 2 months ago.
Evgeni Malkin has become the leader that the fans and his teammates thought he could be. With the final game the season left Malkin has 49 goals and 58 assists. He is well on his way to securing his second Art Ross trophy. Without Sidney Crosby this season Malkin has made the team and everyone around him a better player. Doing so Geno has helped the Penguins clinch the 4th overall seed in the Eastern Conference and has the team poised for a Stanley Cup run.
So to all those people that think that Stamkos should be the MVP due to the goals he has scored, consider what he has done for his team. Has he made the team better around him? Has he lead his team to a playoff spot? These are all things that Malkin has done…NOT STAMKOS!!! Geno has been more valuable to his team then Stamkos is to the Tampa Bay Lightning. I look to see Evgeni Malkin on the stage of the NHL awards in June holding the Hart Trohpy. So who do you think will be the MVP of the NHL?
