A Series For The Ages

Well Penguin fans I think we got what we wanted. We got playoff hockey, home ice in the first round, and a matchup with cross state rival Philadelphia.

Going into the 2011-2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, I am honestly more excited about this year’s team compared to the Stanley Cup winning club a few years ago. I will say from the talk swarming around various media outlets it’s either win the whole thing or bust.

With the start of the Stanley Cup playoffs 24 hours away the Penguins have had three and a half days to prepare themselves with arguably the hardest hitting and most exciting series of the 1st round. One very big positive going into these playoffs is that Pittsburgh solved the enigma which was beating the Flyers at Consol Energy Center. Granted the Flyers had several of their stars out but the Penguins had a very strong showing to win the season finale 4-2.

Tomorrow night, as the fans pack into Consol Energy Center I guarantee we will see the biggest hits, the most trash talking among players and fans, along with arguably the best series the NHL has seen in many years. Look for possibly a few suspensions, fines, and some fights. We all can agree we are going to see a large amount of loud and proud fans tomorrow night and Friday. I am taking the Penguins in this matchup….obviously….the home ice, in my opinion, will serve as the X factor for the Penguins taking this series.

So to the readers who do you think will take this series and why? Who or what is the X factor in your opinion. Post your comments here on penslabyrinth.com or shoot me a tweet with your opinion @DanHoblick.
