Although extremely unlikely, another rumor has cropped up, more because of the relationship Pens GM Ray Shero has with Predators GM David Poile, whom he worked under. Nashville could be in the market for Jordan Staal and in return the Penguins could see Alexander Radulov.
Radulov recently came back to the NHL from the KHL league in Russia. He is a scoring winger and is a big body at 6’1″ and 200lbs. Once again he is a winger and scoring is not a problem on this team. This is another reason this particular trade seems further far fetched. Though, it would be great to get another great scoring winger, I do not think that this is the hole that needs to be filled on this team.
After watching the other playoff series’s, I am convinced that defense and scheme are what needs to be updated, changed, or upgraded. The Flyer’s lost last night to New Jersey, in which they won the series 4 games to 1. After watching that series fairly closely, the Devils stuck to the game plan they have played with all season. Play a tight checking system, mostly defensive and they wait you out offensively. They wait for the other team to wear down and take advantage of that team. That is a style of play that works in the playoffs. Although I am not convinced they have the talent to win a Stanley Cup, all the Devils really needed in this series was patience and focus. That is something the Pens lacked in the first round against this same Flyers team.
So, what the Penguins choose to change or upgrade at this point is still very unclear, but I do know they are paying close attention to the Playoffs and who is playing and how they are playing. If you would like to follow me on Twitter you can @sportsmonger and on Sports Monger Radio.
