US Beats Up On Defending Champions Finland

The US scored a goal at the 16:19 mark of the first period and that would be all they would need as the Americans rolled to a 5-0 win over the Defending Champion Finland squad.

Max Pacioretti was the American that scored first and basically put the game away.      The first period was played very close up to that point.     Pacioretti would later add an assist to give him 2 points for the game.

The US would add another goal late in the second period after the Fins would fight off a couple of power plays.      It was Kyle Palmieri that added the second goal.      Not 2 minutes later, Justin Faulk added another for the US team to give them the 3-0 lead.    For Faulk, it was a power play goal, the first for the US for 3 games.

In the 3rd period, Chris Butler scored for the US team in the first 2 minutes of the period to give the Americans a 4-0 lead.        Bobby Ryan scored to give the Americans a 5-0 lead just a few short minutes later.      That was all the scoring that took place, as the US team played good defense and took advantage of a Finland team that was making  mistakes and taking penalties way to often.     They were able to fight most of them off, but when you take that many penalties, your team gets tired.

The US team plays again on Tuesday.      You can follow me on Twitter @sportsmonger or on Sports Monger Radio.
