US Beats Swiss, Sets Up Rematch In Quarterfinals

The US team waits ready for Finland after their win against the Swiss on Tuesday by a score of 5-2.      Once again, the scoring is spread around though one of the goals came from former Pen Alex Goligoski.       The rematch of the Finland game a week or so ago is what is facing the American team after this last win.

Neither team was able to score until the second period when the Swiss team got on the board first with a goal in the first minute of the second period.     The US Team was able to fight back and take the lead with goals by Bobby Ryan and Cam  Fowler.     Ryan has proven to be quite a goal scorer for the Americans in this tournament.

The US would not score their 3rd goal until the 3rd period when Stastny scored about 5 minutes into the period.        Former Pittsburgh Penguins Defenseman Alex Goligoski was able to get on the board and stretch the Americans lead to 4-1.     The Swiss team was able to get one back with about 6 minutes left in the game to make it 4-2.     At this point, the momentum felt as if it was about to turn  when not just 30 seconds later Jeff Petry for the US team was able to stretch that lead back out to 5-3 and that would be the final score.

American Goalie Jimmy Howard was able to stop 25-27 shots while the Swiss goalie Reto Berra saved 19 of 25 shots.

The Americans finished 2nd in group A with a 4-2 0 and 1 record, which gives them a rematch game against the Fins in the Quarterfinals.     The game will be played on Thursday the 17th.
