Evgeni Malkinh took at trip to the HARDWARE store tonight and was able to clean up.     It started with the Ted Lindsay award, moved to the Art Ross, then was topped by being awarded the Hart Trophy.     What a night for the “Best Player” in all of hockey.

Evgeni Malkin picked up the Ted Lindsay award which is given to the most Outstanding Player in the league which is chosen by the players.        He then was awarded the Art Ross trophy which goes to the player with the most points.     And to top off the night, he was awarded the Hart Trophy as it goes to the Most Valuable Player in the league.    No doubt he was that this year.

He read a different speech after each of the first 2 awards which is really smart for a guy that is just not starting to get more comfortable with the English Language.    That said, his humor came out as he began to give his speech for the Hart Trophy.      He joked and said something like I could always use my last speech if you would like.     It got a genuine laugh from the crowd.     He then sent out a special thanks and said he would like to give this trophy to his best friend, Sergie Gonchar.    It was a really nice moment as you could see how much he appreciates his mentor and friend.

Later as pictures were being taken as he had gathered all of his hardware, he was quoted as saying:

“I can’t believe I’m sitting here, and around me there are three trophies,” Malkin said. “It’s an unbelievable day for me.”(Source)

As I was watching the Twitter feeds after that, it was humorous to see how many Penguin fans, and just hockey fans in general took offense to the fact that he said this was the best night of his life.     Come on, it was a huge night.  He already won the Stanley Cup.    Give this guy a break.    Great player, one that was very deserving of all of his awards.    Congratulations Evgeni.
