Pittsburgh Penguins Pick Derrick Pouliot #8 Overall

The Pittsburgh Penguins got their man when they drafted Derrick Pouliot out of Portland.     Derrick is the second defenseman drafted out of Portland in 2 years, the other was Joe Morrow.    Derrick is an offensive minded defenseman that has experience and success running the power play from his stick.

He is a 6 footer,  with great hands that can pass and shoot.    He does need to clean up his defensive play, but can come with time.    He finished this past season with 59 points, 11 goals and 48 assists which is strong when considering that he plays defense and really only gets opportunities to score or create when they are on special teams.  (Source)

He is a native of Canada, and is only 18 years old.     He played for the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL.

Enjoy the video, The Pens have the next pick.   Hold on tight!
