Their has been tons of speculation after Zach Parise fell off the table for the Pens on who they are going to sign. Alexander Semin’s name has been bounced around like a pinball.
Though Penguin fans are excited about the chance for this winger to join the Pens, I feel its an act of desperation and way to risky for the Penguins to try to sign him. In my opinion Alexander Semin’s dedication seems to be a question to me. As far as I can recall when has Semin’s name been muttered as a game changer in the last 2 years. In his 1st year with Washington I could say this guy has the talent to be big name in the NHL. He scored 48 goals his first year. The next 2 years he barley got passed 48 goals and he has played most of the games that season.
Now I am not knocking the guys playing ability. He is in the NHL for a reason and a top winger for the Capitals. I feel that he is not utilizing his full potential as a hockey player. This is why I think it is a bad idea to sign him to a multi year deal. The Penguins can not afford to wait for this guy to start playing like he did back in 2009. Another reason I am skeptical about this potential signing is their is going to be several players with better talent during the trade deadline and during free agnecy next year the Penguins can take a run at.
So what I am trying to say is it worth trying to acquire Semin and get a decent winger for Sid’s line or wait and get an even better player. Thank Goodness I am not Ray Shero and have to make these kind of decisions.
