The lockout is over and hockey will be returning in an estimated one and a half to two weeks, but if the World Juniors hangover and this news isn’t enough for your hockey loving heart, then Duquesne and the University of Pittsburgh club hockey teams have the answer.
The two teams will be playing an outdoor game at 7 p.m. tonight at Highmark Stadium located in Station Square in Pittsburgh. The stadium, which was designed to house Pittsburgh’s newly formed professional soccer team, was transformed into an outdoor ice rink by the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. The rink will close Friday so more construction can be done on the stadium.
The two teams have only played once before this season when Pitt overtook Duquesne 3-2 in a game that went to a shootout. Last season, the teams had no outdoor game, but played inside Consol Energy Center not their typical home in Castle Shannon at the Ice Castle.
The stadium offers great views of the Pittsburgh skyline and can be found behind the shops and restaurants of Station Square near the Mount Washington Incline.
