Malkin Reports to Camp

After landing in Pittsburgh Sunday, Evgeni Malkin was back skating with the Pens this morning.

The Penguins hosted Day 2 of their Training Camp at the CONSOL Energy Center that saw various line tandems.  Malkin greased the wheels and reportedly skated next to James Neal and Eric Tangradi – according to Sam Kasan of the team’s website.

Malkin has been playing in the KHL for Mettalurg with ex-Penguin defenseman Sergei Gonchar and the Pens have been eagerly awaiting his arrival.  The 2011-2012 NHL Hart Trophy recipient has been a focal part of Pittsburgh’s offense and can now officially continue to help push the Penguins towards another championship.

Other lines that were reported include Sidney Crosby skating alongside Chris Kunitz and Pascal Dupuis–as expected.  Brandon Sutter was anchoring the middle between Matt Cooke and Tyler Kennedy.  Joe Vitale centered the line with Tanner Glass and Craig Adams.  And Dustin Jeffrey centered the line of Beau Bennett and Jayson Megna.

But without a doubt the biggest sigh of relief came with Malkin returning.  The Pens knew he’d be be back without a doubt–the question was just when.

Stay tuned for more Penguins camp reports.
