Penguins Head Coach Dan Bylsma said that superstar Evgeni Malkin skated for about a half hour in Pittsburgh Wednesday, making it his first on-ice appearance since being diagnosed with a concussion.
Bylsma is quoted as saying,
“Malkin did skate back in Pittsburgh. He was symptom-free (Tuesday) and progressed to exercise today. I think he was on the ice for 30 minutes or so.”
This comes as great news to Pens fans, but we shouldn’t assume Malkin will return anytime soon due to the way concussions are handled these days.
Look for him to potentially return next week.
The rest of the team skated Wednesday except for Paul Martin. He was reportedly given the day off for maintenance, so it’s most likely nothing to worry about.
The Pens play ex-teammate Jordan Staal and the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow in Carolina at 7 p.m.
