Pens Re-Assign Simon Despres to AHL

After acquiring forward Brenden Morrow and defenseman Douglas Murray in the past two days, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that they have re-assigned young defenseman Simon Despres to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton – according to the Pens’ website.

Despres, 21, has registered seven points (2G, 5A) and skated to a plus-10 in 24 games for Pittsburgh this year.

It comes as a little surprise, but the organization probably feels he’ll get more playing time in the AHL, considering they’ve now got eight defenseman on their roster.

However, Despres could possibly be back with the team sooner rather than later.

Pens play the Canadiens tonight in Pittsburgh at 7 p.m.
