Pens Defenseman Paul Martin Out Six Weeks, Needs Surgery

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced via Twitter that comeback defenseman Paul Martin will be sidelined six weeks with a broken bone and will need surgery.

See tweet below:

Receiving the news from head coach Dan Bylsma prior to game-time Saturday, it’s fortunate the team has depth around the defensive position.

Still, it comes as a little bad timing because the team is already without top defenseman Kris Letang for the next week or so.

The team will now look to rotate between the defensive players they have. Expect players like Robert Bortuzzo, Simon Despres, Deryk Engelland, and Mark Eaton to see some action

So far this season, Martin has 21 points (6G, 15A) and skated with a plus-12 rating in 33 games.
