Brendan Shanahan, director of player safety, will not punish New York Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto for his elbow on Penguins forward James Neal – according to Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
While jostling for the puck, Neal took an aggressive reverse-elbow to the noggin from Del Zotto, knocking him out of the contest Friday, April 5th.
Neal looked to a little woozy after the hit.
And although no penalty was called, forward Pascal Dupuis was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct following Neal’s departure, when he attempted to check Del Zotto and missed.
There has been no update on Neal’s condition and the team had no practice this weekend.
In 39 games this season, Neal has registered 32 points (18G, 14A) and a plus-3 rating, with eight of his points coming on the power play.
