Report: Tomas Vokoun To Start For Pittsburgh In Game 1 Against Ottawa

According to the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Twitter handle (@penguins), goaltender Tomas Vokoun has announced that he (not Marc-Andre Fleury) will be in net when the team takes on the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night.

See tweet below:

Vokoun has played (and won) the last two games for Pittsburgh since Fleury’s meltdown in Game 4 against the New York Islanders — and it appears he will get the nod again for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

Stopping 66 of 69 Islander shots, Vokoun now ranks first in the NHL with a .957 save percentage for the playoffs and goes into the second round with an outstanding 1.41 goals against average.

It remains to be seen if the 36-year-old netminder can continue his success — but this start is definitely a reward to how well he played in round one.
