Report: Pens Goaltending Coach Meloche Resigns

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending coach Gilles Meloche has reportedly stepped down and will now serve as a special assignment scout for the organization.

Completing his 27th season with the Pens, Meloche has been the team’s goalie coach since 2006.

Due to a handful of atrocious performances by one Marc-Andre Fleury over the past two seasons, Meloche probably made a wise decision to pass the baton.

Pens general manager Ray Shero had this to say during the his press conference Wednesday – per the Pens’ site:

“Gilles believes it’s the right time in his life and his career to move back into a scouting role. He has been an invaluable member of this organization since arriving in Pittsburgh as a player in 1985.”

There is no replacement for Meloche at this time.
