Pens Select Defenseman Dane Birks 164th Overall

The Pittsburgh Penguins selected defenseman Dane Birks in the sixth-round (164th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft Sunday.

Birks, 17, played last season with the Merritt Centennials of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).

He recorded 21 points (5G, 16A) between the regular-season and playoffs and totaled 34 penalty minutes with the Centennials.

The 6’3″, 190 pound defenseman will play next season for Michigan Tech and contains similar tangibles as the Pens fourth-round selection (Ryan Segalla).
