The Pittsburgh Penguins have selected center Jake Guentzel in the third-round (77th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Guentzel, 18, is reportedly set to to play next season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

The 5’10″ Guentzel played in the United States Hockey League (USHL) last season for the Sioux City Musketeers, where he played 60 games and recorded 73 points (29G, 44A).

Guentzel was named Rookie of the Year and he finished the year with a plus-13 rating.

Although Guentzel is on the small side, in hockey it doesn’t matter because we’ve seen players prove that wrong (Martin St. Louis, Brendan Gallagher).
