Pens Elite Program Hosting "Icebreaker Tournament"


The Pittsburgh Penguins Elite program is reportedly hosting the “Icebreaker Tournament” at the CONSOL Energy Center, and it is expected to get underway this upcoming weekend – according to the team’s website.

The Pens Elite is a program that collectively have fourteen teams and ex-Penguin/coach Randy Hiller is currently the skill development/coaching consultant for them.

The tournament is set to have three different age groups, and have teams from across North America compete.

Breaking the groups into years, here’s how the sections will break down:

  • Atlanta Fire and Exton Bulls — 2001 Teams
  • Atlantic Selects, Washington Little Caps, Victory Honda, and Columbus Blue Jackets (AA) — 2002 Teams
  • Tampa Bay Jr. Bulls and Steel City Renegades — 2003 Teams.

The Elite are going to have a team for each age group, and former Penguin Mark Recchi is set to coach the 2001 Team.
