The Pittsburgh Penguins and General Manager Ray Shero have reportedly re-assigned eight players to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, of the American Hockey League (AHL).
The forwards moved down were Nick Drazenovic, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, Steve MacIntyre, Jayson Megna, and Adam Payerl. The defensemen sent to WBS were Scott Harrington, Philip Samuelsson, and Brendan Mikkelson.
Drazenovic, MacIntyre, and Mikkelson all must clear waivers before they can report.
What’s interesting is that they’ve kept top prospects Olli Maatta and Derrick Pouliot on the roster this far; however, both of them are likely to be re-assigned.
Pittsburgh now has 35 players on their active roster, and they must get down to 23 by the start of the season.
Expect 12 more cuts in the coming days.
