Pittsburgh Penguins’ goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was named the NHL ‘Third Star’ of the week, according to NHL.com.
Fleury started each of Pittsburgh’s first two games of the season, in which the team won both contests and he allowed just one goal on 48 shots.
In the season-opener against the New Jersey Devils, Fleury registered his 250th career victory and his 24th career shutout, as he stopped all of the Devils 27 shots he faced in their 3-0 win.
For his encore performance, the 28-year-old goaltender helped guide Pittsburgh to a 4-1 victory when he stonewalled 20 of the Sabres’ 21 shots. His 115:06 minute shutout streak to start the season was the longest in franchise history.
Fleury currently boasts a 2-0-0 record with a 0.50 goals-against-average and a .979 save percentage.
