For the second consecutive week in-a-row, Pittsburgh Penguins’ forward Evgeni Malkin was named the NHL’s ‘First Star’ of the week, according to the team’s website.
Currently amidst a torrid offensive outburst, Malkin led the entire league last week in points (9) and assists (6).
Ranking second in the league for scoring, Malkin now sits just one point behind teammate Sidney Crosby, who’s leading the NHL with 36 points on the season. Topping the entire NHL in assists on the year (28), Malkin registered a point in 14 of 15 November contests, and he also led the league in points (25) for the month.
Providing eight multiple-point performances in November, Malkin enters December on an eight-game point streak, and he’s compiled a whopping eight points (3G, 5A) in the last three contests. Now that’s what I call crazy-eights!
In 28 games this season, Malkin has collected 35 points (7G, 28A) and skated to a plus-1 rating.
Detroit’ defenseman Niklas Kronwall reportedly took home the ‘Second Star’ award, and Chicago’ defenseman Duncan Keith won the ‘Third Star’ honor.
