Pens Injury Report 1/13: Bennett, Martin, Megna Skate

Pittsburgh Penguins’ injured defenseman Paul Martin and forwards Beau Bennett, Andrew Ebbett, Chuck Kobasew, and Jayson Megna, all skated before the team’s Monday morning practice – according to the organization’s Twitter handle.

Martin and Megna have been skating for a little while now, but this is the first time hearing about the other three hitting the ice. Bennett recently had his cast removed, and was given the okay to work-out.

All of them remain without timetables.

Bennett, whose suffered a few injuries so far this season, has only been able to play in 12 games this season. Losing forward Pascal Dupuis likely for the rest of the season, Bennett’s reinsertion into the top-line will be much needed – especially after hearing forward Brian Gibbons left Saturday’s contest in Calgary.

Bennett has only three points (1G, 2A) this season.

Martin has missed the last 24 games with a broken tibia, however, seems to be nearing a return. The Team USA selection has collected 11 points (2G, 9A) in 23 contests this season.

Megna, who also seems to be on his way back soon, has been a spark-plug for Pittsburgh this season. Before going down with a lower-body injury, in 15 contests, Megna compiled six points (4G, 2A), and has provided the team with consistent net-presence.

Kobasew’s ailment is a mystery in terms of when he first suffered it. After being listed as a healthy scratch for the team’s tilt against the New York Rangers on Dec. 3, Kobasew missed practice the following day due to a lower-body injury – per Sam Kasan of the Pens’ website.

Kobasew remains on a day-to-day prognosis.

Ebbett broke his ankle in a game against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 5, and although he’s on track to returning soon, the availability of a roster spot is slim – meaning his chances are high for returning to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Despite speculation of a re-assignment, nothings been confirmed yet, as Ebbett has been a steady contributor for Pittsburgh.

In five games, Ebbett’s logged one assist.

Stay tuned for more updates as the day goes along.

Bennett isn’t expected to return for another four weeks – according to head coach Dan Bylsma and the team’s Twitter handle.

Ebbett, Martin, and Megna are reportedly set to be re-evaluated Wednesday – per Bylsma.

Forward Joe Vitale will miss the next three weeks with an upper-body injury, and forward Brian Gibbons is listed as week-to-week – per Bylsma.
