The Pittsburgh Penguins and general manager Ray Shero have reportedly traded forward Paul Thompson to the Columbus Blue Jackets for forward Spencer Machacek – according to the team’s website.

Machacek will in all likelihood report to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Machacek, 25, has spent the entire season playing for the Springfield Falcons of the AHL, compiling 19 points (9G, 10A) through 34 contests.

Selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the third-round (67th overall) of the 2007 NHL Draft, Machacek has played in 25 career games between Atlanta and the Winnipeg Jets. He has garnered nine points (2G, 7A) – all with Winnipeg – in those contests.

Thompson had played in 39 games for WBS this season, and collected seven points (4G, 3A) with a minus-8 rating.
