Pens' Robert Bortuzzo, Brian Gibbons Injured

Pittsburgh Penguins’ defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and forward Brian Gibbons are both reportedly dealing with injuries, and are listed as day-to-day – according to the Pens’ Twitter handle.

Bortuzzo is nursing an upper-body injury, while Brian Gibbons has suffered a lower-body ailment.

Both players skated in Thursday’s loss to the San Jose Sharks, so, while it hasn’t been confirmed, it seems as though they hurt themselves during that outing, considering they didn’t play last night.

Bortuzzo left in the first period of Thursday’s game and failed to return – according to Sam Kasan of the Pens’ website. We didn’t discover Gibbons’ injury status until after last night’s contest, but he only played 8:39-minutes in the San Jose game.

Luckily for Pittsburgh, the re-insertion of defenseman Simon Despres and the new additions of Marcel Goc and Lee Stempniak spell the losses of both players. Nonetheless, hopefully each of them can recover swiftly.

We’ll know more about their ailments as the weekend rolls along.

Through 39 contests this season, Bortuzzo has recorded five assists and skated to a minus-6 rating.

In 23 games, Gibbons has collected 10 points (4G, 6A) and skated to a plus-2 rating.
