Report: Pens' Tomas Vokoun Set for Conditioning in WBS

Pittsburgh Penguins’ goaltender Tomas Vokoun is reportedly set to be sent down to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday for a conditioning assignment – according to head coach Dan Bylsma and the Pens’ Twitter handle.

Vokoun, who hasn’t played in a game all season, due to an operation to dissolve a blood clot in his pelvis back on Sept. 21, is attempting to make a return to the NHL, but is running out of time.

Originally given a timetable of 3-6 months for recovery, Vokoun commenced skating on Jan. 22, got back to practice on Feb. 19, and has been progressing in ice-sessions ever since.

While we would like to believe Vokoun will eventually return, which he certainly could in the postseason, it’s difficult to think he’d play a whole lot. Set to be a free agent at season’s end, hopefully Vokoun can make at least one more start in a Pittsburgh sweater.

However, there’s no telling how Vokoun will perform once he’s re-inserted, considering he’s been awol all season.
