Jayson Megna to Play in Game 3 Monday? [Update: Is In]

The Pittsburgh Penguins are likely going to be without forward Brian Gibbons for Monday’s Game 3, but will that open the door for Jayson Megna to dress?

According to Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Megna could very well be making his first-ever postseason debut, now that Gibbons is almost certainly out for the tilt.

Although Megna appears to be in line for Monday’s game, there’s no confirmation that he’ll be playing, and there remains a possibility that Taylor Pyatt could receive the nod for fourth-line duties – according to Sam Kasan of the Pens’ website.

Personally, I would feel more comfortable if Megna gets the call – regardless of him being a rookie. Pittsburgh needs to match the ‘Jackets desperation, and knowing Megna isn’t a lock to play in every game, he’ll provide more urgency on the Pens’ fourth-line.

Megna’s also fast. We all saw how Gibbons’ speed was a huge factor in the Pens’ first two goals in Saturday’s Game 2, and I think Megna’s agility will play a big role in Pittsburgh regaining the series’ lead.

However, as it stands, the lineup is a game-time decision. But nonetheless, I’m hoping Megna’s in for tonight.

In 36 outings for Pittsburgh this season, Megna’s collected nine points (5G, 4A) and skated to a plus-1 rating.

Game 3 can be seen on the NBC Sports Network, and is set to start at 7 p.m.
