Pens Injury Report 5/1: Orpik Out Yet Again

Pittsburgh Penguins’ defenseman Brooks Orpik reportedly missed practice again, while forwards Brandon Sutter and Joe Vitale resumed line activities – according to the Pens’ Twitter handle.

There’s still no clear-cut idea of what’s hurting Orpik. Playing a normal amount of ice-time in round one’s Game 4 – which was the last game he played – there’s nothing indicating he injured himself in that tilt, unless he skated through it.

Leaving practice unexpectedly on Apr. 25, Orpik has since yet to do any hockey activities, and seems doubtful for the Pens’ Game 1 of the quarterfinals. This means Robert Bortuzzo will in all likelihood receive the nod.

Sutter and Vitale both practiced on their usual third-line, suggesting that each of their ailments seem to be subsiding. It appears both are in line to suit up for Friday’s Game 1.

Brian Gibbons also practiced, however, he skated on a fifth-line unit with Chris Conner and Taylor Pyatt. Gibbons has not played since Game 2 of the first-round.

Game 1 against the New York Rangers can be seen on the NBC Sports Network, and is set to start at 7 p.m.
