Pierre McGuire Leading the Pens' GM Candidacy?

We’re coming up on three weeks now since Ray Shero was canned, and still no replacement.

According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, we can expect the Penguins to finally hire a new general manager at some point this week.

As far as who it will be is still up in the air though, because very little has been leaked from Pens’ headquarters. However, as reported subtly last week, NBC analyst Pierre McGuire is in the mix for the gig – per Kovacevic.

Well, in a conference call with TSN 1050 Radio Tuesday morning, McGuire confirmed the rumors that he’s been in talks with Pens’ brass.

Now, McGuire’s candidacy is starting to heat up on Twitter, and there’s even been a hashtag created in his honor “#pierrewatch” – courtesy of Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Reveiw. Although there’s been little information towards who’s leading the Pens’ GM race, McGuire is certainly sitting towards the top.

Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has also been on Pierre-watch, but has been placing “#PensGM” instead of Yohe’s hashtag.

Could it be? Is Pierre the new head man in charge of who stays and who goes in Pittsburgh?

We’ll likely find out this week.
